Halloween

Halloween is celebrated on the 31^th of October. It's mainly celebrated in America, Ireland, UK, Australia,..but nowadays it's an international day, so it's celebrated in a lot of countries. On this day people are celebrating the day of the deads. 

It's a tradition to wear a costume of a monster, a vampire or a mommy and to go around the houses and ask for a ''trick or treat''.

Halloween is a very old celebration: it all began on the Celts, they celebrated the end of the harvest season and the start of the time when the ghosts and the deads become awake and it was also the end of the Celtic year.

Are you for or against using animals for medical research?

At the moment, it is legal in some countries to research with animals, although there are arguments both for and against this practice.

One of the arguments for using animals is that if we just use the nesessary, the experiments are safe and people control them it's good because human and animals bodies are simillar and we can see if the experiments are going to be good or no.

On the other hand, a lot of scientists abuse of animals and a lot of them die. Some people think that animals doesn't have feelings and it doesn't happen nothing if they kill them.

All in all, I'm in favour of using animals for medical research but just if scientists do it with control and the experiments are safe.

Hi Sheldon!

I've been in a party in L.A and I just met a girl called Penny. She's very nice and I think thet I fancy her. But I'm not sure how I feel about her.

I met her in a party and we were chatting all night. Both of us were laughing and we said that we should meet again. But then she started flirting with another boy and she didn't tell me nothing. But when I was leaving the party she came and we went for a walk near the beach.

I've been thinking about her since I had known her. We'll probably meet again. But I don't know what I want with her. I need your help.

Writing 1

The last decade was a one that a lot of people is going to remember because it was the first of the millennium. It was a time of change because a lot of things appeared like the EURO (€).

There were some tragic events, for example the Civil Wars in Africa that they’re still during.

In the world of music, with the new technologies people started to create music with computers and things like that, but the good music was and it is still remaining. But what has changed a lot was the cinema, because they had improved the graphics, the visual effects and a lot of different things.

I think that there weren’t a very important invention, but they had improved all the invents. And one memorable moment was when they could took photos of Mars.

LAST SUMMER

MY LAST SUMMER

Hi, my name is Albert and now I'm going to talk about my last summer. 

In June, I was in the organization of a music festival called (a)phònica here in Banyoles. I had to prepare the backstages, help the musicians, prepare the concert area, and a lot of other things...it was very cool and I met some famous artists!

Then, on July I went with my father and two other friends to see the Tour de France in the Pyrenees. First we ride up the mountains on our bikes and then we wait for the race and we followed them 4 days. It was hard but exciting! 

And finally, with my family like all the years we went two weeks to Llança. We couldn't go to the beach every day because the weather wasn't good, but we did some other things like go Karting, go fishing or do some excursions.

The rest of the summer I passed here in Banyoles with my friends.

The Persistence of Memory

The Persistence of Memory is painted by Dalí in 1931. It's an abstract picture with strange and melting clocks, a tree and at the back, threre's a cliff next to the sea. Dalí said that he dreamt that picture.

This is a classic surrealism art work, an art movement that started in France.

The Persistance of Memory is now in the museum of Modern Art in New York. It was first bought for 250$ in 1931.

Inside Llewin Davis

The last film that I enjoyed is one from the Coen brothers called 'Inside Llewin Davis'. It's a drama film but with some humor that my cousin recomended me because it is about music and I really like it. 

So this film is the history about Llewin Davis. He's a musican and he plays folk music but he's not successful. The film takes place in 1961 in New York. He doesn't have money and he's always sleeping at the house of different friends. The funniest part of the film is that he loses the cat of one of his friends and he tries to found him. Then he goes to Chicago and he lives some adventures. The soundtrack and the music that they play is fantastic.

I really enjoyed the film and I recommend it to everybody but, there isn't much action.

Are you in favor of home schooling or against it?

I think that homeschooling is a bad idea. I think it's just for people who lives on the countryside or awey from the cities.

It's a bad idea because the poor boy that's doing this can't meet boys or girls of his age (specialy teenagers). I also think that the learning is worst that going in a school because if you do homeschooling you only have one teacher that knows a little of everything and you don't learn all the things that you could learn in a school.

Of course is better for the boy to go in a school but, if you don't have more options, is the only way for study.

INTERVEW: WRITING

'Le Tour de France' is a centenary bike race that starts on July and there're 21 stages and the racers do 3,656km.

This race is a very emblematic one and all the cyclists want to race it. The most of the routes are in France, but a few ones pass in the UK, in Italy and in Catalonia too. Is one of the most heavy bike race of the world and this year they do: 9 flat stages, 11 mountains stages and 1 individual time-trial stage.

A very special think of the Tour are the differents colors of the jerseys: the first of the competition wears a yellow one, the best racer climbing wears a white with red spots, the first that have no more than 25 years, wears a white one and the best sprinter, a green one.

This year they celebrate the 101^th edition and 22 teams celebrate it trying to win it! In each team there're 8 racers and the one that wears the number one is the cyclist that he has to win.

A thing that makes 'The Tour' special is the ambient that gives and that there comes a lot of people of forgein countries. It's too exciting!

Writing 3: The last film I saw

The last film that I saw was Metallica Trough The Never. I had to go to Barcelona because it is the only place in Catalonia that they play it.
The film is an excuse for see a concert of one of the best heavy metal bands. But while you are seeing the concert, there's a history of a boy that he has to find a van that there's a very important thing. While you are seeing the history of this boy that he found a revolution you listen the song of Metallica and you see the concert too.
I think it wasn't a good film, but I liked very much because I could see a concert of Metallica.

Writing 2: TV highlights

The TV highlight of this week was definitely the first episode of the 4th season of Game of Thrones. It was brilliant. All the people is waiting for the next episode!
Another highlight was the excellent comedy of The Simpsons. They are on the high step again!
The next TV highlight was the series Hawaii 5.0. In this episode, the killers kiddnap one of the members of the police and the members of the 5.0 have to think how to rescue her. At the end, they go to the place were are the killers and they arrest him. It was a very interesting episode too.

Writing 1: My best friend

My friend lives in my city and we go to the same school too.
He's 14 years old, he isn't very tall and he has brown hair and brown eyes. He's cheerful and generous. He's also friendly and he isn't shy.
He enjoys playing sports and playing music. We sometimes go to my house and we play music toghether. He likes watching films and TV series.

Writing: My last summer

Hello, my name is Albert and now I'm going to talk about my last summer. First I'm going to talk about my holidays in Paris and then about the rest of my summer in Banyoles.

On the 10th of july I went with my father to Paris and then my mother and my sister came more later. There we went to see the monuments of Paris, some museums and some shows. We could see the Eiffel Tower, the river Seine and a lot of other interesting places. There's a lot to do in Paris!

Then I spent the rest of the summer here in Banyoles with my friends and my family. Some days I hang out with my friends or I went to the beach with my family.
It was a great summer!

Writing Unit 9

Hi!
I'm Albert Costa and I live in Banyoles, Catalonia. I like the area where I live very much.
There's a big park called 'La Draga' and some others but smaller than that. Many people go out because there's not many traffic and there are a lot of places to go. There are places for study, but there aren't youth clubs. That's not a problem, because the teenagers can go swimming in the lake or go in the parks. As a result,  many people go with friends and family in my area because there is a lot to do.
I think that the council have to maintain it, so the people can visit it and have a great time.

Beth: I'm not well. I think that I been injured my leg when I hit with a rock.

Tony:Oh, now the fire-fighters are coming don't move.

Beth:OK, but I think that the boat is going to sink.

Tony:Oh my god! Beth now are coming, don't panic!

Writing Unit 5

Angus Young is one of the best guitar players of the world. He's from Scotland and he was born in 1955. When he was young he went with his fathers and with his 7 brothers and sisters to live in Australia, there four brothers of him became musics and he started with the guitar there. When he was 16, he and his brother Malcolm started to play in the band of his old brother, and when he was 18 they made the band AC/DC with the bass player Cliff Williams, the drummer Phil Rudd and the singer Bon Scott. Then the band AC/DC made for Angus and Malcolm Young became and is one of the best band of Hard Rock music. One curiosity of Angus is that when he play the guitar in the concerts he wears an school uniform because, when he was young, they expelled of the school.

Writing Unit 4

The rescue happened the last summer in the Sahara desert. I was there with my family and some other tourist when we saw a man fighting with two snakes. One of the tourists started to run for help the man in danger. The tourist took a stone and he threw it  to one snake, and then the other snake left.
I think that the rescue did a very good work.

Writing My School

My name is Albert and I'm at Casa Nostra School in Banyoles, Catalonia. Casa Nostra is a small concerted school. We aren't many students here. I'm interested in sport but there isn't a new and big gymnasium for PE classes. That's not important for me because we usually do PE classes outside. One of my favourite rooms is the woorkshop because when we go there we do some active classes, but it's so small.
